Soft and adorable, Red Crabby is the perfect size for little hands to grasp and hold. With no small pieces or parts, this friend is safe for all ages. Better yet, like all my toys, Crabby is 100% washable! Get your pattern here or order one made!
Just finished this awesome (large) croc-a-gator! I'm not surer if he's a crocodile or an alligator, but I do know he's BIG! I found this pattern from an old book from the library (probably should have taken down it's name) and with a few modifications made it my own.... and much larger than anticipated! I can't wait to see what you make. I'm am still typing out my PDF copy of the pattern for you, but in the meantime here he is!
While sitting in quiet reflection as I look with no-small amount of pride at my latest finished project ( a small grey dog), I think about why I crochet toys. Why do I spend hours and/or days making these little 3D objects? Well.....
It started as a way to pass the long lonely evenings in my first apartment. I had not known such loneliness or boredom as I did during that first year on my own as a newly minted adult. So I picked up my old hobby of crochet to pass the long hours alone. Making toys became a challenge for me. Could I tie a string so intricately that it actually looked like something? My confidence in my talent was so low, however that I would give away or even hide the toys that I finished making. I thought "Who would want something handmade?", so many of my creations were added to a Rubbermaid bin which I stuffed under my bed. It wasn't until several years later, after having met my Fiance, that I was encouraged to try and sell my stuffies at the Grosse Isle Prairie Dog Railway summer market. Each weekend in the summer, the PDC makes its stop in the small town of Grosse Isle to share a little country lifestyle with tourists from the city. I didn't have much to lose, so with a lot of encouragement and support from my Sweetheart Ron, I set up a small table of items. Over the next few summers I have sold out of items to sell several times!! People LOVED my stuffies! Although a personal challenge to create new and beautiful crocheted items is still what inspires me, my reasons to continue to crochet and make Toys specifically has evolved. I don't just make toys, I make friends. It started with a need to fill the emptiness, the quietness of my life.... and became a reason to fill the emptiness of the lives of others. To create companions for those quiet times. Silent companions to share adventures and keep secrets, to speak in a language only a child can hear. Their soft & washable bodies are perfect for absorbing the occasional tear, muffle the sniffles, and giving comforting hugs. Their bright eyes shine with only love for their child, an unconditional love that is timeless. These quiet confidants may be around for all the times a child needs them to be, never judging, never criticizing, only giving support, comfort, and love. I crochet toys to give kids a friend and someone to share their lives with. While it takes me a day (or two) to publish this pattern with pictures, I felt I could share it with you for Free until then. Get it while its hot! Because it wont be free for very much longer. I have created this Giraffe wearing a sweater for 2 reasons; 1) Because we live in Canada and a sweater is always a good thing, and 2) because I had run out of yellow yarn and needed to improvise, lol. I have tried several of the free sites to get me started, but have always come back to this Weebly.com. So until I can figure out more of what to do, here's a great pattern I just found! Hello Kitty crochet pattern from ZAN CROCHET. I love this pattern! It is so quick and easy to make. The feet of this adorable kitty are a bit tricky to start as the pattern isn't correct, but if you get stuck, please send me an EMAIL and I'll help you out! What's new this Year!
I am pleased to announce that Cheryl's Cuddly Crochet now accepts VISA, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover Card!! I signed up for the SQUARE Reader to bring you the best service possible! This past holiday season I was blessed to attend several Craft Show and Sales with my Mum. At one such event, I met another crocheter who introduced me to Amish Puzzle Balls! I have since made three and am planning on making many, many more! These adorable and fun toys are great for any age and ability. Fun for children and toddlers to play with. Also they would make great *Enrichment* toys for persons with disabilities!
Come check them out! The challenge with following someone else's pattern is always the "unknown". Will my creation turn out like theirs? or was there a mistake made in the pattern or in my reading of the pattern. One such case is this Snowman I made. Not happy with the result and most definitely not going to make it again.
